Homeowners Insurance and Renters Insurance do not cover Flood Damage. If you live in a designated flood zone or in the vicinity of major rivers or waterways, you have a greater chance of a Flood devastating your home and ‘safe place’! However, Flash Floods can also create property damage by flooding neighborhoods in any location where the drainage system can’t handle sudden downpours.
In short, rising water from the exterior of your dwelling is classified as flood water; flood damage is costly and the only way to protect your home and personal belongings from financial loss is with Flood Insurance.
Programs are available through the Federal Government’s National Flood Insurance Program, but we also have a dozen of private insurers who offer Flood Insurance coverage.
Private Market Flood Insurance Programs
A few private insurers are offering primary flood insurance making available higher levels of coverage compared to the National Flood Insurance Program. Private Flood Insurance may not be available in all areas.
For those who have the NFIP Flood Insurance, Excess Flood Insurance is available in all parts of the country; in high-risk flood zones along the coast and close to major rivers and in areas of lower risk.
